-Sony released firmware 3.0 update for PlayStation 3 console on Sept. 1 bringing slew of new features. But soon after updating PS3 consoles with firmware 3.0, quite a number of PS3 owners reported performance and game freezing issues.
After we reported about the PS3 firmware 3.0 update going live, few users commented about the system performance issues while playing games. Like Andrew Vaughan from North Bay commented, Just purchased a new PS3 two weeks ago… worked AMAZING, as soon as I did the update… games starting freezing… 4 times the other day, during Army of Two, Call of Duty 4, and Batman Arkham Asylum, all in Offline play. Apparently, there’s no official way to roll back the firmware update or install the previous version firmware on PS3 system.

Even at the official PlayStation Forums, users complained about system freezing and crashing after updating PS3 with firmware 3.0 update. Many gamers who played Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune game after updating PS3 system with firmware 3.0 complained about game crashing.

Apart from freezing and game crashing issues, the DualShock controllers also stopped working entirely with the PS3 consoles. Apparently, the PlayStation 3 Forums folks note that the console locks out the unofficial Sony DualShock controllers.

However, we hope that folks at Sony PS3 firmware development are listening to users’ woes and roll out an update soon after investigating on the issues with 3.0 firmware.
